KAYAK ON THE OURTH

Kayaking on the Ourthe

Frankly, discovering the region from the water is TOP. The ideal months are from November to April because otherwise you risk hitting rock bottom. With my 7 year old son we entered the water in Maboge with our own inflatable kayak, no difficulty. If you prefer a little more adventure, enter the water at the Nisramont dam. Fun guaranteed. There are also several organizations that can accompany you and / or rent kayaks.

THE GAME PARK

THE GAME PARK

Are you in the region with children? A passage in the game park seems to us then a necessary passage. The park is very close to the house (be careful with the slope to be expected), very accessible and well maintained. You are not going to spend hours there but a visit to wolves, wild boars, deer, etc. is always pleasant for the children.

THE MOULIN DU WEZ GOAT HOUSE

THE MOULIN DU WEZ GOAT HOUSE

la Chèvrerie du Moulin du Wez is hidden between stream and forests 6km from La Vue. It is in this atmosphere of tranquility that you can visit the farm. Children love it and feel welcome there. On site and according to the rhythm of the seasons, you can find in the farm store different types of cheese, apple juice from the farm, honey and some local products. Very local, to recommend.

MTB (ELECTRIC OR NOT)

MTB (ELECTRIC OR NOT)

Personally, we are suitable for electric mountain biking because La Roche-en-Ardenne is quite mountainous anyway. Having said that, it doesn't matter if you choose elec or not, the region is very suitable to be visited by mountainbike. Full of routes, full of possibilities. For your rentals, please go see Peter from SoWatt, their service and bikes are top notch.

BRASSERIE ACHOUFFE

BRASSERIE ACHOUFFE

If you like, like us, to taste the famous beers of the Lutin Marcel, you would probably also be interested to discover what Brasserie d'Achouffe looks like and learn more about its manufacturing secrets. We tested, re-tested and re-tested.

WALKS ON FOOT

WALKS ON FOOT

We are suitable! If you are a hiker like us, know that there are several long-distance hiking routes that pass through La Roche, such as the GR14, the GR57 but also the GTA. Officially you can't sleep in the woods but if you are respectful you won't have a problem. Otherwise there are also large numbers of walks and simpler walks. At the tourist office which is very close to the house, we will tell you everything.

Chlorophyll park

PLAYGROUNDS

The playgrounds are accessible all year round. Our favorite is nevertheless that of game park at the top of the Deister plateau. (Be careful, it's right next to La Vue but it's a sporty ride, if not by car) Another great is that of the Chlorophyll park. The website is not great, it is a little further (+/- 20 mins) but the park frankly at the top, for young and old.

COUNTRY GOLF

Playing golf between animals is possible! The Monville farm welcomes you to its 1700 m, 12-hole course. Some starting explanations and off you go for 2 hours of fun. So put on your boots for a game with friends or family, the children will also be there.

ROPE COURSE, VIA FERRATA, DEATHRIDE

A fan of sport-adventure activities? If so, especially check out what our friends below are offering. There is something for everyone. Rope trails in the forest, 4X4 safaris, tree climbing, via ferrata, treasure hunts with GPS (geocoaching), abseiling, deathride, zip line, etc.

Rafting

This “wild-style” aquatic activity requires a strong flow of water and is therefore recommended in the period from November to April, in groups of 5 to 10 people.

DOWNHILL QUADBIKE

We have not yet tested but it is noted in our wishlist. More info at wildtrails.

the little train

The circuit of the little train will make you discover La Roche and its surroundings. They will tell you the history of La Roche, its castle and its legends. Duration: 35 to 40 minutes.

some fishing

We don't really know what it is, but we see fishermen everywhere. We advise you to take a look at this guide

CHRISTMAS MARKET

To fully enjoy a real winter atmosphere, don't forget to visit the Roche-en-Ardenne market. Although the market in La Roche is developing more and more, the Christmas market in Durbuy is still unmatched for the moment. In Durbuy you will still find advantages of craftsmen, Christmas tales but also an ice rink. In any case, a winter in the region is nice.

CRAZY TROPHY FOR GROUPS

Wildtrails Crazy Trophy concept is very simple. A complete program, entirely adapted to your group, is drawn up in advance with the Wildtrails team. Different activities are combined to achieve a balance between relaxation, competition, team spirit and challenge.

HOLY MARGARET CHAPEL

Clinging to the shisteux slope, this chapel is in a traditional 16th century style and built by the provost of Laroche. There is a wooden statue of Sainte-Marguerite dating from the same period. A legend says that the chapel was built on a spring and that this supplied the water cistern of the feudal castle of La Roche, a cistern that is still there today. The Sainte-Marguerite is invoked by pregnant women so that childbirth goes as well as possible.

MINI GOLF

2 places at La Roche for mini golf. We haven't tested yet but it looks nice. More information at the La Roche tourist office.

SPELEOGY

A priori there are several places where you can taste caving. Personally, we have the impression that Marc Couke's Adventure Valley is organizing the best. Be careful though, it's a real sporting expedition through the natural cave, obviously accompanied by an experienced guide! During the visit, you will abseil down into the lowest room of the cave until you reach the water.

MUSEUM OF THE BATTLE OF ARDENNES

Let's be clear, the Museum of the Battle of the Bulge is probably not the reason why you especially come to La Roche. That said, the museum is located in the city's pedestrian street, 5 minutes from La Vue, and a good reason to go take a look. It is in any case the largest museum of the Battle of the Bulge, 1500m2 of exhibition with dioramas, vehicles, weapons, etc.

TENNIS

We may not come to the Ardennes or La Roche to play tennis, but for those who want to, here is the link to where the courts are.

ACTIONZONE OUTDOOR PARK

The actionzone outdoor park is a little further away because it is located between Malmedy and Saint-Vith (+/- 50 mins from La Vue). That said, you will find various “Fun & Adventure” activities there. With paintball, kids paintball (ages 7 and up), bubblefoot, arrow tag and interactive treasure hunts, there's something for everyone.

POTTERY

Find the gestures of yesteryear, the sensations, the emotions or the smells which punctuated the life of the baker, the butcher, the apothecary, the monks,… but also of the lords of La Roche and their peasants. La Roche-en-Ardenne has an attraction that will appeal to everyone: The sandstones of La Roche… ..The Ardennes over time.

PARAGLIDING / PARAGLIDING

We haven't done it yet but on our wishlist. There is indeed a paragliding club at La Roche.

THE GUIDES OFFICE

The guides office organizes activities on Fauna (beaver, badger, insects, recognition of birdsong, etc.), wildcraft techniques (making fire according to survival techniques, building a shelter, wild cooking, etc.) such as Paleo (build a camp like in the good old days)

PAINTBALL

Fancy a paintball sensation in the middle of the forests of Roche-en-Ardenne? Find your enemy, keep a cool head, hide behind trees and capture the opposing party's flag. At Ardennes Aventures they have a forest specially designed for paintball, filled with natural obstacles such as bridges, burrows, etc.

THE PHANTOM BERTHE DE LA ROCHE

The ghost of Berthe, daughter of the Count in the 10th century, walks along the feudal castle of La Roche-en-Ardenne, every evening from July 11 to August 22, 2020. If you want to know more about the ghost, visit its page wikipedia.

POOLS

If the Ourthe is not enough to cool you off, here are the addresses of the swimming pools at La Roche.
